LINDO, DELROY (1952–). Actor. This London, England-born actor exudes a powerful presence on stage and screen. He was born to Jamaican parents and moved to Toronto, Canada, with his mother as a teen, and later to the United States, where he graduated from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. His first notable film role was in More American Graffiti , 1979, and he spent the next 10 years on the stage. He made his Broadway debut in a 1982 production of Master Harold and the Boys , directed by the play’s author, Athol Fugard. He received a Tony Award nomination for portraying Harold Loomis in August Wilson’s play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone . He received national acclaim as numbers boss West Indian Archie in Malcolm X , 1992, and won an NAACP Image Award for his work. He portrayed baseball great Satchel Paige in the film Soul of the Game , 1996.
