LOCKHART, CALVIN (1934–). Actor. Born in Nassau, Bahamas, Lockhart was in construction and wanted to be a civil engineer. He studied with acting coach Uta Hagen and was discovered while driving a taxicab in New York City by playwright Ketti Frings, who cast him in the play The Cool World , in 1960. He later starred opposite Angela Lansbury in the race-based love story, A Taste of Honey . He moved to England to appear with the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-on-Avon, and appeared in several British movies. His film career took off during the blaxploitation era of the 1970s with strong roles in films like Cotton Comes to Harlem , 1970; Halls of Anger , 1970; Melinda , 1972; and Honey-baby, Honeybaby , 1974. His television appearances include Good Times, Get Christie Love , and Dynasty .
