PETERS, BROCK (1927–2005). Actor, producer. Peters was born in New York City and acted on Broadway before moving into film. His stage debut was a 1943 production of Porgy and Bess, and he was later cast in the film version as well. His first film role was as Sergeant Brown in the Otto Preminger musical Carmen Jones , 1954. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of the falsely accused Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird , 1962. He was a producer on the film Five on the Black Hand Side , 1973. On television, Peters produced This Far by Faith , 1975, starred in Roots: The Next Generation , 1979, and was a regular on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless . He continued to act on stage, television and film, and received numerable awards, including an Image Award, a Drama Desk Award, and an Emmy.
