REID, DAPHNE MAXWELL (1948–). Actress, producer. As cofounder of New Millennium Studios with her husband, Tim Reid, she is mostly recognized as Aunt Viv on NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel Air . Born and raised in New York City, she majored in interior design and architecture at Northwestern University, and later signed a modeling contract with the Eileen Ford Agency and became the first African American woman on the cover of Glamour magazine. She began an acting career and has been very active in television roles in series, such as Simon & Simon, Hardcastle and McCormick, Cagney and Lacey, Hill Street Blues , and The Cosby Show . She has also acted with her husband in their own productions, including Frank’s Place, Snoops, Link’s , and their syndicated talk show, The Tim and Daphne Show . Her feature film appearances include Protocol , 1984, and Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored , 1995.
