Schultz, Michael (1938–)

SCHULTZ, MICHAEL (1938–). Director. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin, Marquette University, and Princeton University, where he directed his first stage play in 1966. He joined the Negro Ensemble Company in 1968 and directed To Be Young, Gifted and Black for television in 1971. His early film projects include Honeybaby, Honeybaby , 1974, and Cooley High , 1975. He worked with comedian Richard Pryor in films like Car Wash , 1976, and Which Way Is Up , 1977, and later helmed the early rap music movies Krush Groove , 1985 and Disorderlies , 1987. He has kept busy in television directing made-for-TV movies and series, such as Young Indiana Jones, City of Angels, Boston Public , and Everwood .
