SMITH, ROGER GUENVEUR (1959–). Actor, writer. This Berkeley, California-born actor grew up in Los Angeles and made his film debut in director Spike Lee ‘s School Daze , 1988. He has appeared in nearly all of Lee’s movies since. Smith wrote and performed the one-man stage play A Huey P. Newton Story , and he was a reader on the performance documentary Unchained Memories: Readings from the Slave Narratives , 2003. His television work includes roles in A Different World, New York Undercover, Oz, City of Angels , and Third Watch .
