STICKNEY, PHYLLIS YVONNE. Actress. This native of Little Rock, Arkansas, started her entertainment career performing stand up comedy and was one of the first comediennes of color to perform at the Juste Pour Rire Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada. Her comedy routine was on the pilot episode of the TV series Showtime at the Apollo , and she was initially considered as a possible host. Stickney’s first acting role came in the telepic The Women of Brewster Place , and she followed with a role as a stand up comic in writer/director Topper Carew ‘s Talkin’ Dirty after Dark . She was named as one of the 200 African American women who changed the world in the 25th anniversary issue of Essence magazine.
