TAYLOR, REGINA (1960–). Actress, playwright, director. Born in Dallas, Texas, she attended Southern Methodist University and appeared in the telefilm Crisis at Central High , 1981, while she was still a student. She has appeared on and off Broadway and was the first African American actress to portray Juliet in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway. She became well-known on television in the series I’ll Fly Away, for which she earned numerous awards, including a Golden Globe Award and an NAACP Image Award. She also starred in the television series The Education of Max Bickford , and portrayed Anita Hill in the made for TV film Strange Justice: The Clarence Thomas Story . She made her film debut in Lean on Me , 1989. Taylor is a Distinguished Artistic Associate at Chicago’s Goodman Theater.
