TUSKEGEE AIRMEN, THE . 1995. (PG-13) 107 min. Biopic. Cable drama based on a book by former Tuskegee airman Robert W. Williams about the formation and service accomplishments of the first black fighter squadron during World War II, who faced scorn, doubt, and racism at every turn. After proving they were intelligent enough to even fly a plane, the “Fighting 99th” of the 332nd fighter group were stationed in Europe, where they never lost an escorted B-52 bomber to an enemy fighter. Several of the fighters’ lives are highlighted, including Captain Benjamin O. Davis, who would become the first black general in the U.S. Air Force.
