Glen Burnie is a small suburb of Baltimore, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is approximately 15 miles north of the state capital of Annapolis. According to the 2000 census, the population was 38,922. Although never incorporated as a city, attorney Elias Glenn first called Glen Burnie home in 1812. The property was originally named Glennsburne, but soon afterward became Glennsbourne Farm. As the site was handed down to the Glenn children and grandchildren, it eventually came to be called Glenburnie. The locale was also named Tracey’s Station and Myrtle before expanding by several thousand acres. Glen Burnie is known mostly for being the location of one of the first enclosed malls in the United States, Harundale Mall.
