Britax Booster Seat - Buying a Britax Booster Seat

Britax has been a leader in child car seats for over 70 years. They have engineered such innovations as True Side Impact Protection and Versa-Tether. For new parents, choosing a car seat becomes an enormous responsibility and a major purchase decision. Without a little help, it is difficult to know where to begin and what to look for. Britax booster car seats come in five basic designs: infant car seats, convertible car seats, forward-facing-only seats, combination seats, and belt-positioning booster seats.

Infant Car Seats
Britax infant car seats are made to be used only in a rear-facing position. They have a carrying handle, so they double as an infant carrier. They have a maximum weight capacity of 32 pounds. Many parents like to start off with an infant car seat and then move up to a different style when the baby gets older. They are great for their portability. The base of the seat stays connected to the car and the carrier clicks in and out. This also makes it simple and fast to use. After a baby reaches 15 to 20 pounds, however, the seat becomes too heavy to carry for extended periods of time.

Convertible Car Seats
The convertible Britax booster car seat can be used either rear-facing or forward-facing. Rear-facing is recommended (and prescribed by law in some states) for children less than 35 pounds and then can be used forward-facing by children from 35 pounds to 65 pounds. Many convertible seats can first be used with children as small as 5 pounds.

Forward-Facing-Only Seats
Forward-facing-only Britax booster seats use a harness system to secure the child. Minimum child weight for these seats is 20 pounds, and maximum weight is 80 pounds. These seats are recommended for their five-point harness system.

Combination Seats
Combination seats use a removable five-point harness. When children get older, it can be used as belt-positioning booster seat. It can be used by children up to 80 pounds.

Belt-Positioning Booster Seats
These Britax booster seats use the vehicle’s built-in belt system to restrain the child. These seats should not be used by children under 4 years of age.
