Charleston, West Virginia is a small city of roughly 50,000 permanent residents, located at the confluence of the Elk and Kanawha Rivers in Kanawha County. Charleston is the Capitol and largest city in West Virginia. The metropolitan area has a population of about 300,000. Coal mining played an important part in the city’s growth and today the area has become much more diversified with excellent hospitals, educational facilities, cultural centers, parks, shopping and restaurants.

Whether you are flying into Yeager Airport for a business meeting, taking a trip to visit your relatives or just stopping along the way to your final destination, Charleston, West Virginia has a wide variety of hotels from which to choose. There are a number of very good choices for anyone wishing to stay in downtown Charleston. The hotels are moderate to somewhat pricey, ranging from about $125 to $200 per night. With a little advanced planning and research, you can often find lower special promotional rates. For their location in the downtown area, Charleston hotels are a very fair value.

One excellent choice for both the business traveller and the family vacationer is the Embassy Suites Charleston, located in the heart of the city. Just across the street from the Charleston Town Center Mall and convenient to all the downtown shopping, restaurants and attractions, the Embassy Suites hotel rates as one of the top ten Embassy properties in the world. This Hilton Family hotel always stands out as an excellent choice of accomodations. The two room suites provides plenty of room to spread out. Families will be comfortable as there is a pullout sofa in addition to the King or two queen-sized beds. Businessmen can take advantage of the separate work area with desk and internet connection. There is also a business center located off the lobby.
A swimming pool, workout area and nice lobby all add to the ambience of the facility. One of the really nice features is the complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast where the chef will prepare an omelette just the way you like or you can choose pancakes, french toast, cereal and more. For about $175.00 per night, you can’t go wrong.

If you are looking to save a little money, but still want some really nice accomodations, a Hotel just outside the downtown Charleston area is a good choice. One of the best rated is the Residence Inn, Charleston which is located near Yeager Airport. The price of about $120 per night entitles you to a clean comfortable room, swimming pool, all the usual amenities and some the service of a very friendly staff.

While not everyone can afford to pay over $100 per night for accomodations, there is an answer that will only set you back about $60 per night. You can get a clean room with a view of the river at the Budget Host Inn. While it does not have the amenities of some of the larger hotels, the staff is friendly and the rooms are quite adequate for a night or two.
