Sioux Falls is the largest metropolitan area of the mid-western state of South Dakota. Twelve colleges offering a wide array of instruction are located within the city limits of Sioux Falls. These colleges range from technical to liberal arts institutions, and include medical schools, seminaries, and programs in cosmetology and esthetics. Out of the 12 colleges, only one school is a public institution—Southeast Technical Institute—and two schools are not for profit, which are Sioux Falls Seminary and Sanford School of Medicine. These two colleges are the most well-known institutions of the schools located in Sioux Falls: Augustana College and the University of Sioux Falls. Augustana College is the largest private institution in the state of South Dakota. This college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
