Port Jervis Hotels - Hotels of Port Jervis, New York

city offers country town

Port Jervis, New York (pronounced locally as Jar-vis) sits in the heart of the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania tri-state area at the confluence of the Neversink and Delaware Rivers. The area that Port Jervis is located in is at the northern end of the Catskill Mountains renowned for gorgeous fall colors that can be seen throughout the region, an amazing fusion of regional cuisines, and beautiful waterfalls. This spot is a popular family destination offering swimming and canoing during the summer months and skiing and ice fishing during the winter months.

The Port Jervis hotels offer big city amenities and small town charm. Port Jervis is located about two hours northwest of New York City and many of these residents have weekend or vacation homes in the Port Jervis area. Port Jervis offers a great home base to see the rest of New York state from and allows you to quickly get to many of the popular sites along the southern end of New York with Niagra Falls around 250 miles away; still within a day’s drive. Antique shops and historic markers dot the town of Port Jervis and the many restaurants serve up authentic Pennsylvania Dutch and German foods and classic American fare, as well.

There are several family run establishments to choose from among the many hotels of Port Jervis. The Erie Hotel and Family Restaurant offers local live music on some weekends during the summer and a golf tournament in late summer benefiting a local charity. The hotel side of the establishment offers cheap rooms with a cozy atmosphere and friendly service at the front desk. Rooms come with a private bathroom, television, and phone; standard fare for a hotel room in this area of the country. If you are wanting to rest in more of an established brand of hotels, Port Jervis offers up a Best Western, Comfort Inn, and Red Carpet Inn, however if you are wanting to truly experience the country side, getting a smaller hotel room is highly suggested. The locals here are beyond nice and love having tourists stop in who appreciate the beautiful country side of the area. The smaller Port Jervis hotels are gold mines for information about things to do in the area. Many of the towns do not publish their local activities on the internet as they are such small communities, but picking up a paper like the Sullivan County Democrat or asking your hotel manager for suggestions on what to do in the area could reveal a wealth of information.

If you are looking to stay near Port Jervis, venturing over to the town of Glen Spey, New York will allow you to find the Delaware Valley Black Bear Inn, a small and reasonably priced inn that has all the amenities you would expect. Near this area you will find Narrowsburg, New York, a short drive from Port Jervis. This town is home to beautiful charm and one of the deepest spots on the Delaware River and is a very busy ice fishing spot in the deep winter months. Several of the towns in the area have special Christmas decorations that include a festival of lights that stretches for many miles between towns and if you are able to catch this show, it is well worth it.

If you are staying in Port Jervis and are wanting more of a big city experience rather than doting around in the country side, Port Jervis is a short trip away from New York City with several types of shuttle services offered throughout the week. Many New York City tourists who have been more than once or twice usually prefer to have their hotel outside of the city for many reasons including better price, friendlier people, less traffic, and a beautiful drive. Port Jervis offers so much to the regional and international traveler with the blend of big and small city charms. Finding a quiet spot to read the morning paper with your breakfast is not a difficult task by any means and keeping connected to your business via cell phone or wireless internet is not a problem in the area, either. Port Jervis can provide a world away for the New York City traveler and provide a secluded country getaway for the regional traveler looking for a weekend away.
