East Hampton is a shore town on the southeastern tip of Long Island, New York. As of 2000, the town had a population of 19,719 and is composed of a conglomeration of four villages and hamlets: East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, Springs, and Wainscott. East Hampton is popular with visitors looking for an escape from regular life. There are a total of eight state parks surrounding and inside the town, and it is bordered on three sides by water. The town limits are inside a 70 square mile area, but spreads along the coast, 25 miles long. East Hampton is famously known as an area containing a large majority of summer homes for the wealthy. Its nickname is the “Playground for the Rich and Famous.” Although there are no regular East Hampton hotels, the area has plenty of small inns and bed & breakfast establishments.
