The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa is the newest and most profitable resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. When it opened in 2003, it was the first new resort to open in the city since the Trump Taj Mahal in 1990 and it has become of the most popular destinations in the city. With an on site casino, spa, and concert venue, in addition to many other amenities, the resort gives visitors little reason to leave its grounds during their stay in Atlantic City.

History of the Borgata Hotel Atlantic City

With a 1999 $330 million construction project known as “The Tunnel Project,” developer Steve Wynn built a 2.5 mile tunnel that connects the Atlantic City Expressway with the marina district. In this marina district, he also built the $1.1 billion Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa.

The resort opened on July 2, 2003, and just two years later, a $200 million project was launched to expand the resort, adding a new wing to the casino. In addition, the largest poker room in Atlantic City opened at the Borgata Hotel Atlantic City in July 2006.

Features and Attractions at the Borgata Hotel Atlantic City

There are about 2000 guest rooms and suites at the hotel. While most of the rooms are standard hotel rooms, the resort also offers several levels of suites, including the 1500 square foot Piatto Suites and two 4000 square foot Residences. All of the rooms feature modern amenities such as high speed internet, floor to ceiling windows, and granite countertops. However, there have been occasional complaints about low standards of cleanliness in some rooms, so it probably will not hurt to give your room a quick examination when you arrive. Prices at the hotel can vary from about $180 per night for a standard room to over $1200 or more for a suite. Rates will vary depend on the time of your visit, so be sure to plan ahead.

In addition to the main hotel, a separate boutique hotel known as the Water Club is also on the grounds of the Borgata. This hotel has 800 guest rooms, four pools, and large meeting rooms. The casino at the Borgata is about 161,000 square feet. It features 4,100 slot machines and 200 table games and daily tournaments in the large poker room. The casino has a multi-level rewards program, called “My Borgata Rewards.” The first level, red, is free and offers basic features like comp dollars for slots and other games played. The second tier rewards card, the black card, is given to those who spend $1000 at the casino in a calendar year. With this card comes benefits like free valet parking and discounts at the restaurants and stores at the Borgata.

Twenty-two restaurants of all types and costs are on site at the Borgata. The higher end restaurants include the Bobby Flay Steakhouse and the Wolfgang Puck American Grille. Casual dining restaurants include the Borgata Buffet and Roma Pizza, Pasta, and Panini. There is also a food court with restaurants like Panera Bread and Fatburger. There are 7 nightclubs on site, including the pool-side Sunbar and Gypsy Bar, which features live music. While all of these restaurants offer plenty of options during a stay at the Borgata, fans of the Food Network’s Bobby Flay will be particularly interested in his restaurant at the resort. While you are not likely to see Flay himself there, the food and atmosphere at the restaurant regularly receives the highest reviews.

Many high profile musicians and entertainers appear at the Borgata’s 2400-seat event center. Musicians like Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, and Aerosmith have recently appeared at the Borgata. Also, comedians like Bill Cosby and Don Rickles have also appeared at the resort. Visitors can also enjoy the 54,000 square foot Spa Toccare, which features a salon, a fitness center, indoor pool, and gardens. There are also 11 retail stores on site and 180,000 square feet of meeting space. Along with the many attractions at the resort, it is also close to other Atlantic City activities, including the Trump Maria Resort and Casino, which less than half a mile away, and the Atlantic City Aquarium, which is less than a mile from the Borgata.
