Cheap Laptop Pc - Your Guide to a Quality but Cheap Laptop PC

1. define your budget.

Computers are an integral component of our modern lives, and for many of us, it has become vital to own a laptop. The problem is that notebook PCs are expensive, and they tend to be short-lived and inflexible compared to our desktop PCs. The bottom line is that many of us want to spend as little as possible. The good news is that just because you buy a laptop cheap doesn’t mean you have to get low value in return.

1. Define your budget.

Start the process by defining cheap. $400 is a great a price point. It is relatively cheap and it offers a lot of value from the reputable brands. You can spend less, but the value drops sharply. The exception to this is the netbook, in which case you can get by with $200. However, be aware of netbook limitations. They are essentially just Internet browsers.

2. Buy a cheap laptop for sale online.

The Internet is the best place to buy laptops cheap. The brick and mortar shops are notorious for pushing certain brands, and their “cheap” laptops and computers carry premiums that are greater than the cost of shipping will be. By buying online, you can also avoid taxes, at least at checkout, which will allow you to buy your computer sooner. Focus on shops like Amazon, Newegg, and TigerDirect, which offer outrageous deals on cheap notebook and laptop computers.

3. Buy an elite brand.

Shopping laptops for sale cheap does not mean you have to settle on an inferior brand. The market for cheap laptops and notebooks is huge, and the big brands have strong presences. Research the brands. The goal is to buy from a brand that consistently posts high survival rates beyond three years. Asus and Toshiba have built specifically strong reputations in this regard. Toshiba is particularly attractive because they have many strong options at the $399 price mark.

4. Shop hard for a great warranty.

When you buy a laptop computer cheap, you’re often sacrificing warranty, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Be aware of the warranty, and read the fine print. Not all 1-year standard warranties are equal. Be aware that you won’t do much better than a 1-year standard warranty at $400. However, all of the big brands offer an upgrade to their 3-year warranty for ~$99. However, at this price point, most consumers will be better off putting that $99 toward the next $399 laptop. Still, make sure the warranty fully covers you during that first year because if the laptop is fundamentally flawed, this is when it will rear its head.

5. Consider buying a refurbished laptop.

A refurbished laptop is a great way to get more for less, and despite what many suspect, they are reliable. It all comes down to brand again. Buy from a reputable brand and you are getting a laptop that they have repaired, scrutinized, and given a new warranty to. Buy through companies who specialize in refurbished laptops, such as Newegg and TigerDirect, in order to take advantage of the fast turnaround in the case that anything is wrong with it.

6. Don’t sweat the specifications.

When you’re buying cheap, you don’t have a lot of control over the internals. That’s not as bad as it sounds because computer performance is outpacing need, and even the cheapest computers provide more than enough power for the average PC user. This is especially the case concerning both Intel and AMD’s entry-level mobile processors. Do avoid purchasing less than 2GB of memory and avoid buying a primary HDD that is smaller than 80GB. The $399 Toshiba laptop at Newegg at the time of this writing has 4GB memory and a 250GB HDD. Shop around for a 7200-rpm HDD as well, but if you’re committed to spending $400, you’ll likely have to buy a 5400-rpm drive unless you get lucky and hit a deal.

7. Cheap and portable are qualities that go hand in hand.

Most of us want a cheap laptop because we want something portable. The good news is that the aspects that make laptops unwieldy, such as large screens and additional hard drives, are not included in the less expensive models. You can buy a cheap laptop with reasonable confidence that it will be just as light as you need it to be.
