Boston Convention Center - Hosting Events at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center

location and accessibility

The massive four-story Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) has been a mainstay of the city’s commercial life since opening in 2004. With about 516,000 square feet of exhibition space, it regularly hosts gala events and large corporate conferences, career fairs, and expositions for local groups and major players such as Apple and eBay. In fact, the building was designated the 2007 Convention Center of the Year. That year, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority reported that approximately 1.6 million people used the facility’s exposition center, meeting rooms, and ballroom. Full event planning services are offered.

Location and Accessibility

The convention center’s success is due in part to its prime location. Located at 415 Sumner Street, it’s adjacent to Brophy Park and just blocks from the South Boston waterfront, Piers Park, and the famous Boston Marina.
The convention center can easily be accessed by locals and out-of-towners; it’s just across the harbor from Logan International Airport and is on the city’s Silver Line transit system. The World Trade Center underground station is just a block away. A number of hotels have been built nearby specifically for the convenience of convention center visitors.

The convention center is fully accessible to people with disabilities. Ample handicapped parking is provided and wheelchair-accessible paths are provided between parking lots and meeting spaces. A free shuttle with wheelchair access is provided at larger events.

Meeting Spaces at the Boston Convention Center

The main exhibition space on the ground floor consists of three contiguous areas that can be joined or partitioned. The rooms range in size from 162,000 to 184,000 square feet. There are 52 loading docks and trucks can actually drive into the exhibition area.

The second and third floors have dozens of smaller meeting rooms covering more than 140,000 square feet. The second floor also features an international food court with seating for more than 400 visitors.

Swank events take place in BCEC’s top-floor ballroom. This space provides sweeping views of Boston and ample room for behind-the-scenes event preparations.

Event Planning Services at the Boston Convention Center

The convention center’s staff provides full event planning, taking care of high-tech demands, catering, and other needs.

Technical services – Exhibitors benefit from state-of-the-art computer connectivity, satellite service, gas floor boxes, and more. The center’s arrangement with Projection, Inc. simplifies equipment rentals too. Projection provides rental booths, rental computers, language interpreters, webcasts, and other services of use to convention planners and participants. Other services provided by the center include paging and video recording.

Catering – The BCEC has contracted Levy Restaurants to serve its guests. Levy prepares menus for parties as small as 10 or as large as 10,000. In-booth catering is even offered to exhibitors. Popcorn carts, ice-cream freezers, and other equipment can be rented through this vendor.

When your event is finished, the Boston Convention Center will even donate your leftover items (food, office products, etc.) to local charities, making cleanup easy, kind, and environmentally sound.
