Calphalon Cookware Set - Basic Care for a Calphalon Cookware Set

pans nonstick steel stainless

A Calphalon cookware set, made by the Newell Rubbermaid company, can be purchased in several nonstick, anodized, stainless steel, and copper styles. All of these products require some basic similar handling, but a few of them have special care needs to maintain their appearance. It just makes sense to be aware of how to properly care for these pans so they will continue to look good and function properly over the years.

Any Calphalon cookware set, especially the nonstick type, should be pre-washed before using in warm, sudsy water, then rinsed and dried. It is not necessary to preseason any Calphalon unless it is the cast iron line. Pans should be preheated over medium to medium-high heat, never high, to the proper cooking temperature. Oils or butter can be used to cook with in the nonstick type of pans, and preheated before food is added. Aerosol sprays are not recommended because the propellant can leave a residue on the pan. Pans should be washed thoroughly after cooking to remove any food or oil residue that can cause sticking in subsequent uses. Nonstick pans should not have metal utensils used on them, only plastic, coated, or wooden ones. A hot pan should not be put into cold water, or it could warp. Nonstick pans should be hand washed and dried only.

An anodized Calphalon cookware set is made of an aluminum core or a stamp forged aluminum disk. These create a fast even heating and heat dispersion. Calphalon uses a patented process that infuses nonstick particles into the pores of the metal surfaces. This creates a hard, semi-nonstick surface that is heat and scratch resistant, doesn’t affect the food or flake off easily, and is not damaged by metal utensils. Anodized pans also should not be heated at high temperatures because they heat up and cool down more quickly than regular pans, and they should not be put in the dishwasher.

The stainless steel Calphalon cookware set has brushed stainless steel pans with clean lines and professional performance. These pans should be cared for similarly as the others, but they can have metal utensils used on them, and they can be put in the dishwasher. Stainless steel pans with tempered glass covers can also be put in the oven up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. If the steel gets tarnished, it can be restored with Radiance polish or Bar Keepers Friend, also a polish.

A copper Calphalon cookware set with stainless steel covers can also be used in the oven or broiler. The copper luster may tarnish on these pans, so Radiance polish or Bar Keepers Friend will work for them, as well. Another option is to apply ¼ cup white vinegar mixed with two tablespoons of coarse salt with a soft sponge, then rinse thoroughly. Abrasive cleaners and pads or caustic cleaners are not recommended.

A Calphalon cookware set comes in Gourmet, Contemporary, Tri-Ply and Fundamental styles. These sets range in price between 150-600 dollars, depending on the materials and pieces included. They come in 8, 10, 12, 13, and 14 pieces, and may include sauce and stock pots, frying pans, roasting pans, grills, and griddles. Specialty items, such as woks and double boilers, are usually sold separately. All sets include 10 year, 20 year, or Lifetime maintenance and replacement warrantee.
