Flat Lcd Monitors - LCD Monitors

Information on Flat Panel LCD Monitors

available plasma panel inch

Technology has come a long way since the days when our grandparents would gather around the radio and later the first black and white televisions. In recent years, both plasma and liquid crystal display, or LCD, monitors have substantially dropped in price, making flat panel monitors pretty much standard fare for both televisions and computer screens. Although plasma screens were on the scene first, the more popular option in recent years has been LCD monitors.

While there are some advantages to having a plasma screen, such as slightly better viewing angles and sharper colors, these advantages are hardly noticeable on most of the recent models. Also, plasma screens are typically more expensive and use more electricity than flat panel LCD monitors and are also more likely to get nicked or scratched. LCD screens are usually lighter than plasma screens so are easier to hang on walls or other surfaces. Therefore, unless you are buying an extraordinarily large screen or have a specific commitment to a plasma screen, an LCD monitor is usually a better option.

The technology behind LCD monitors is somewhat complex. Flat LCD monitors consist of two thin glass panels with a type of liquid crystal trapped between them. When this liquid crystal is heated, it is manipulated to display the images that you see on the screen.

When shopping for flat panel monitors, LCD monitors are usually the best place to start looking. LCD monitors for your home computers are available in a number of sizes and price ranges. At the lower end, 18 to 20 inch LCD monitors from companies like Dell, HP, and Acer can be found in the $100 to $150 range. For many home computing needs, these monitors are reliable and more than sufficient. If you need a larger LCD monitor for your business or at home projects, then you could pay anywhere from $4000 to $8000 or more for a 65 inch LCD high quality monitor from Sharp, Sony, and other manufacturers. Of course, many models are available in sizes and ranges in between these two extremes. For example, a 32 to 40 inch monitor from LG or HP typically costs about $400 to $600.

If you are looking for an LCD flat panel television, then you also have many options available. In general, the prices for LCD televisions will, of course, be higher than computer monitors of a similar size. For a 56 to 65 inch high quality LCD flat panel television, you could pay as much as $6000 or more. However, more accessible models are available in the $1500 to $2000 range for larger LCD televisions. In the middle range, 40 to 42 inch LCD TVs from Panasonic, LG, and other companies can usually be found for about $600 or so. At the lower end, a 19 to 22 inch LCD television typically costs about $200 to $300.

When you are looking for an LCD television or LCD monitor for your computer, you should begin by searching online to find out what is available in your price range. Once you have a general idea of what kind of monitor you will be able to afford, then you can begin searching sites like amazon.com or cnet.com for both prices and reviews. It is also a good idea to visit retail stores, both to see what sales might be available at particular stores and to see models that you might be considering buying but have only seen online.

When so many prices, sizes, and models available, those who are looking for a new flat screen television or computer monitors can typically find an LCD flat panel monitors that fits their prices and needs.
