Information and Locations

offer west wholesalers corner

For many, one of the first images that comes to mind when they think about New York City is the bustling markets in various parts of the city. These markets offer everything from fish to the famous “I Love New York” t-shirts. Some of the most famous markets in New York are the flower markets. If you are looking for fresh flowers in New York City, you have many options available, but the most well-known flower markets are the Chelsea Wholesale Flower Market and the New York Flower District. Although the hey-day of New York’s flower markets are behind them, you can still capture some of the old New York charm at these markets.

New York Flower District

Clustered around the corner of West 28th Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan, the New York Flower District is made up of a number of individual wholesalers. Many of these wholesalers offer particular types of flowers or plants. Some offer greens, some potted plants, some offer flowers from specific locations from all around the world: Holland, Hawaii, Florida, others offer silk or other artificial flowers. Other vendors sell or rent equipment for weddings and other events. One of the more well-known vendors in the Flower District is Bill’s Flower Market. This store offers flowers and accessories of all kinds

The best time to visit the flower district is sometime in the later morning on a weekday. If you go too early, then you might get caught in the morning rush. If you go too late, then most of the flowers will be gone and many of the vendors will be closed. Sometime between 8 to 10 a.m. is probably the best time to visit. There are also New York City flower delivery services in case these hours are not convenient.

Chelsea Wholesale Flower Market

Several blocks west of the New York Flower District, near the corner of West 15th Street and 9th Avenue, you will find the Chelsea Wholesale Flower Market. Like the Flower District, fresh flowers from all over the world are brought daily to the Chelsea Flower Market. However, the market is not made up of many wholesalers, but is owned by one company. Therefore, the prices at Chelsea Wholesale Flower Market are typically a little higher than the Flower District. For those who do not want to deal with the bargaining and sometimes crazy atmosphere in the Flower District, the Chelsea Flower Market is a good option. It is open from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other Options for Flowers New York

Near the Chelsea Wholesale Flower Market, at the Chelsea Market indoor shopping center, the Gramercy Park Flower shop is another good place to find a wide variety of flowers in New York. Many other flower markets are scattered throughout the city, so if you ever find yourself in a quiet corner of the city, you are likely to find a charming little flower shop in New York.
