In 1911, Hermann Franke founded a sheet metal company in Rorschach, Switzerland. As the Swiss economy thrived in the 1920s, Franke expanded his business to include oven tops and window fittings. In the early 1930s, Franke began to manufacture nickeline, monel-metal, and finally stainless steel sinks. After a lull during the war years, business, which was now led by Franke’s son Walter, was booming for the company in the 1950s and 60s, and by the early 60s, the company had 750 employees. Throughout the later part of the 20th century, the company expanded throughout Europe and into North America. Today, the company has operations in Europe, South America, North America, Africa, Australia and Asia with a total of over 13,000 employees. In addition to an industrial engineering division, the company today had five major divisions: Franke Foodservice Systems, Franke Washroom Systems, Franke Coffee Systems, Franke Beverage Systems, and Franke Kitchen Systems, which includes their stainless steel sinks.

Franke Stainless Steel Sinks

Although the company has a wide variety of products, the Franke Stainless Steel Sink remains a mainstay. Many people who are familiar with the company know of it because of its sinks, and especially because of its stainless steel sinks. For consumers in North America, Franke offers several varieties of stainless steel sinks.

Top-mount stainless steel sinks are available in a wide variety of styles. The main options for this style of sink are single, double, or triple bowl. The same options are available for its under-mount sinks. With their apron-front stainless steel sinks, Franke offers single bowl and double bowl options.

For those who are more serious cooks, work-top stainless steel sinks with built-in knife racks, strainers, and cutting boards are available. These sinks are also available in single or double bowl models.

Franke also offers both top-mount and under-mount round bowl stainless steel sinks and smaller secondary prep sinks made of stainless steel.

The prices for Franke’s stainless steel sinks vary greatly, but in general they are on the expensive side. The cheapest models of Franke’s stainless steel sink are in the $180 to $200 range. Sinks in this range are typically the smaller single bowl top-mount or under-mount or some of the basic prep sinks. Franke’s top-mount or under-mount double bowl sinks are closest to what might be considered a typical kitchen sink. These are available for somewhere between $325 and $475 or more, depending on the features that you want. The most expensive Franke stainless steel sink can cost anywhere from $3500 to $5000. One such model is the Franke PRX 720C Double Basin Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink Magnum Series. This apron-front sink, which is made of the highest quality steel, retails for $6000, but can usually be found for about $4000 to $4500 at online shopping sites.

When you are considering a kitchen remodel, a Franke stainless steel sink is a feature worth considering. In addition to adding value to your home, it will be a reliable and attractive addition to your kitchen.
