Compare Tv Prices - How to Compare TV Prices

features tvs models brands

One of the biggest, yet most beloved, tasks is upgrading your TV, especially if it is your first time buying a flat-screen HDTV. None of the joy should be ruined by accidentally buying a TV that doesn’t have all the features that you wanted or by spending way more than you should have. It can be a real letdown when Bob across the street buys a higher-quality TV with more features for less than what you spent on a sub-par model that you were talked into buying by a greasy salesperson.

The solution to this dilemma requires that you compare TV prices before you go shopping. When you compare TV prices, you will undoubtedly want to compare more. A pure TV price comparison is only possible once you have compared everything else and decided on a specific model of TV. This means you only have the one job left – to compare TV prices. Doing so is not really very difficult. You can take some time and drive out to the stores in your area that sell TVs. The price will vary somewhat between each store.

You cannot consider your TV price comparison complete, however, without searching for prices from online retailers. When you compare TV prices, you should be comparing the grand totals. Online stores may have a number of extra charges that are not factored into the price of the item. So, when you compare TV prices, you will have to factor in any shipping and handling charges, and you will have to verify if you are being charged sales tax. Sales tax should also be factored in to the price of the TVs when you go looking in person. Sales tax is usually charged on items online when the online retailer operates out of the same state in which you live. Otherwise, tax is either figured into the price, or it is not charged at all.

Some difficulty arises in comparing TV prices when you are working with different models in the same brand. This requires you to look at the features of the TVs. It is safe bet, however, that models within the same brand will be priced based on the amount of features, the quality of the TV, and the year it was first released.

Further difficulty arises when you try to compare TV prices among different models and brands. Different brands will have very different price structures, and some models and brands with fewer features will be more expensive than models and brands with more features. It will take some serious time and effort in research to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Among the specs and features that need to be considered include the following:

  • Size – This the number one factor for comparing TVs. It is also a good indicator of price, but some smaller TVs can be expensive due to their features. Generally, TVs now come in sizes from hand-held to full-wall – from 2 inches, and up to 100 inches or more.
  • Resolution – HDTVs come in one of two, possibly three, resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 1080i. The p and the i, however do not stand so much for the resolution as it does for the method in which the resolution is produced. Most people consider 1080i and 1080p to be identical to the human eye. In addition, it is said that all three are equal on screen sizes of 32” or less.
  • Contrast – The contrast ratio is a value given on how dark the black gets when compared to the white. The higher the ratio, the higher the quality of the picture and colors.
  • Inputs/Outputs – This is one of the most important factors to consider. Your TV should have enough and the right kind of input connections for all of your devices.
  • Energy Efficiency – Even TVs of the same size can have a wide range energy requirements. If you are teetering on the edge of a decision, energy efficiency could be a deciding factor.
