Usher Got It Bad - Usher's "U Got it Bad": One of Billboard's All-Time Hot 100 Top Songs

bad” single united spot

The American musical artist known simply as Usher, combines soulful rhythm and blues with a hip hop edge to create chart topping hits such as “U Got it Bad” and “U Remind Me”. With billboard hits throughout the United States and Europe, Usher remains one of hip-hop and R & B’s superstars.

Usher was born in the city of Dallas, Texas under the name Usher Raymond IV. Though he started out life in Dallas, Texas, he spent most of his youth in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was here that he began his singing career at the age of 9 when at his mother’s urging he joined the choir at his local church. Impressing his family and church with an astounding vocal range and natural ability to select the perfect pitch, Usher and his family decided to head for a larger city in the belief that a larger arena would allow him to showcase his talent. The family relocated to the city of Atlanta, Georgia and it was here that Usher’s musical career began to gain momentum.

Usher first gained public notoriety when he released his album titled “My Way” in 1997. This particular album has received the honor of being certified platinum and found it’s first single “Nice and Slow” being listed on the Billboard Hot 100 list. This album was followed by the 2001 release, “8701” which also contained several chart busting singles such as “U Got it Bad” and “U Remind Me”. Both “My Way” and “8701” enjoyed incredibly successful sales with a combined selling total of more than 8 million copies throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

The single “U Got it Bad” was produced by music producer royalty, Jermaine Dupri. This single was also co-produced by Bryan Michael Cox. “U Got it Bad” was the second single to be released from Usher’s second album, “8701” which was released in the year 2001. The track quickly reached the number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. In Australia and the United Kingdom, the song made it to the number 5 spot.

“U Got it Bad” received a remix by the Danish music producer and song writing power team known as “Soulpower”. This Danish duo, which consists of Kenneth Karlin and Carsten Schack, has worked with such musical superstars as Brandy, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross and Sting. The remixed version of “U Got it Bad” featured a 2-step garage beat. The 2-step garage beat, also referred to simply as 2-step, was popularized in Great Britain and consists of a modern electronic beat. This 2-step beat is the basis for the highly popular music genre known as UK Garage. The “U Got it Bad” remix gained more popularity than the original mix produced by Jermaine Dupree in many parts of the world.

Usher’s single “U Got it Bad” is currently listed on the “Billboard’s All-Time Hot 100 Top Songs” in spot number 99, just barely making it onto the list. This prestigious list is created with data collected from record sales throughout the world. This single was also listed on the “Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Decade” in spot number 15 for the years 2000 until 2009. In the United States, the single “U Got it Bad” reached number one on the charts in December of 2001, but was quickly bumped from the spot by the group Nickelback’s single “How You Remind Me”. “U Got it Bad” made a return to the number one spot again in January of 2002 where it spent an additional 5 weeks.
