coverage healthcare care offers

The Blue Cross and Blue Shields Association (BSBSA) is America’s leading healthcare provider. It is an umbrella unit that comprises of 39 community based, locally operated companies and are responsible for providing affordable health insurance. The company had a humble beginning in the 1920s, when they started providing hospital care to lumber and mine workers in the Pacific Northwest. Currently, it provides insurance coverage for one in three Americans.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCSIL) provides health care insurance plans to more than 6.5 million people. Employers can also take advantage of the group health plans, which can be extended to their employee’s dependents as well.

Blue Cross Illinois offers different types of coverage and health insurance plans. Before you choose a plan, it is important to analyze your health care requirements. Some plans cover a wide range of health services such as maternity coverage, dental coverage, vision and even prescription drug coverage while others are short term plans such as a hospitalization only plan.

The company offers three types of health insurance plans:
1. Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), which offers access to a select network of physicians and hospitals. You can select a physician when you sign up, who will be your first point of contact for all your healthcare requirements. Women also have the option of choosing an obstetrician or a gynecologist.
HMO plans have lower premiums, low deductibles and low copayments but offer the highest level of coverage. However, outside the physician network, your healthcare will not be covered.
2. Participating Provider Options (PPO) is quite like the HMO but you are not required to choose a physician and can consult doctors outside the network. PPO plans have higher premiums and deductibles; however, consultation costs within the network are lower.
3. Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP) offer the option of combining a high deductible PPO plan with a tax advantaged health savings account. You must be eligible to open a health savings account and make contributions each year. Health savings accounts offer special tax benefits monitored by the Treasury Department.

Majority of people are concerned about the high cost of health insurance and the financial risk of being uninsured. Blue Cross Illinois offers budget friendly plans which include basic healthcare services only such as child care, optional dental coverage, diagnostic testing and prescription drug coverage. As of June 2010, the expense limit for these plans is $1000 to $3000, with deductibles ranging from $250 to $5000.

For the Blue Value plan, monthly payment for a $1000 annual deductible with 100% coverage, with optional dental and maternity benefits includes will be approximately $450. The payment would vary depending on your annual deductible.
