Columbus Ohio Condos - Condominiums for Sale in the City of Columbus, Ohio - The City of Columbus, Neighborhoods in Columbus

home price north park

Columbus is the capital of the state of Ohio. It is also the largest city in the state, with more than 700,000 residents as of the 2000 census. Columbus was the site of the first commercial airplane flight, when an exhibition pilot for the Wright Brothers flew two packages to the city from Dayton. It was also the home of the first water filtration plant, an invention which led to a drastic reduction in worldwide deaths from typhus. Columbus has a number of attractions, including the museums and galleries in the Short North district, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the Zoombezi Bay water park, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra and the Wexner Center for the Arts. Columbus may not have the cachet of other cities in the US such as New York, San Francisco or Orlando, but it does offer the arts, sports, kid’s activities, outdoor recreation and history all in one place. And since Columbus is not a hip hot spot, interested buyers can get a lot more home in Columbus than they could for the same price in a more famous city like Los Angeles or Dallas.

Neighborhoods in Columbus

If you are thinking of buying a condo in Columbus, you should first familiarize yourself with the neighborhood options. Columbus is a diverse city and home, both historically and in modern times, to a great number of immigrants. The city has a German village, an Italian village, and a large condominium high-rise in the neighborhood known as North Bank Park. There are more than 80 different neighborhoods in Columbus, but some of the most important include Argyle Park, the middle-class area of Berwick, the Bottoms (a notoriously high-crime area), Clintonville (which itself is divided into three sections), the museum- and school-filled Discovery District, Short North, and King-Lincoln Bronzeville.

Columbus, Ohio Condos for Sale

The price of a condo in Columbus will vary. The number of bedrooms, amenities, area and age will all contribute to how much you will have to pay. One way to find bargains is to search specifically for foreclosed properties. These have been reverted to the bank, and often sell for much less than properties sold by owners. In 2010, it was possible to find foreclosed properties listed for as little as $39,900. This price is for a two-bedroom, two-bath home with a garage, with an $8,000 down payment and monthly payments of only $181. Another four-bedroom foreclosed condo, with two baths, was priced at $17,500, because it was an older property built in 1955. New condos are higher, such as ones in the toney, historic Upper Arlington area, which average around $180,000.
