Lafayette is a city in southern Louisiana. It is the Lafayette Parish seat, and has a population of 114,214, making it the fourth-largest city in Louisiana. After many Acadians were met with hostility in New Orleans, they travelled northwest into what is now Lafayette. Today, Lafayette is known as the capital of Cajun country, with the culture infused in a vibrant, modern city of business, recreation, and tourism.

Public transportation in the city is runs daily from 6:30 am to 11:30 pm. There are also four ports within 30 miles of the city.

Public Education in Lafayette is served by the Lafayette Parish School System. The system consists of 33 schools in total: 21 elementary, 12 middle, and 5 high schools. In addition, the system has six specialized career academies for high school students: Business & Finance, Design, Engineering, Health Careers, Information Technology, and Travel & Tourism. Higher education in the city is provided by The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the second-largest university in the state. The city is also home to the South Louisiana Community College Lafayette Campus and Acadiana Technical College.
