Dana Point Hotel - Finding the Best Dana Point Hotel

Dana Point Harbor area

The southernmost stop of California’s Highway 1, Dana Point is a renowned surfing location and beautiful beach front area. Just south of L.A. in Orange County, Dana Point welcomes California visitors with annual festivals, boats, golf, and more than twenty hotels. Guests have many options for fine tuning their accommodations, determined largely by what area in which they are looking for their Dana Point hotel.

The following are some of the best hotels in the area. Each Dana Point hotel below offers a wide range of pricings and features, while the tourist traps—many of which offer cockroaches and ragged furnishings at inflated prices—have been omitted.

Each hotel is located on or near Dana Point Harbor, a nautically-themed tourist community which provides yacht clubs and whale watching opportunities amid a cluster of nearby pubs and restaurants. Though there are other beaches to the north and east of Dana Point, this core cluster tends to the majority of visitors in search of a good Dana Point Hotel.

Those searching for a convenient location and a competitive price should consider the Dana Point Marina Inn. Starting at $70, this slightly dated structure has provided solid service to Dana Point for decades. Though there are other decent inns that offer comparable views and prices, the Dana Point Marina Inn offers the best views and rates of any of its competitors.

Also located in the harbor is the Blue Lantern Inn, a beautiful little hotel with distinct New England architecture. A fairly expensive choice, it offers space, view, and comfort in an artful series of guest rooms. These rooms range from $170 for a fireplace-warmed, “city view” guest room to $600 for its regal “Tower Guestroom” package, complete with jetted spa tub, private patio, and four-post bed.

Slightly inland from the harbor is the renowned Laguna Cliffs Resort and Spa. More traditional than the Blue Lantern and significantly more expensive, this non-inclusive resort begins at $269 for a one-room, resort-view stay to $1400 for an ocean-view suite dripping with amenities.
