Port of Spain is not a city in Europe, but is actually located in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Port of Spain is the most developed city in Trinidad-Tobago, and is an important center of the financial services industry in the region. Port of Spain is also a popular tourist and political destination, and offers high-class hotels, live shows by international entertainers, restaurants featuring a large array of cuisines, sports and the arts. Many major airports in the United States and in Europe offer flights to Port of Spain, and some airlines and travel booking services also have flight deals which include accommodations.
British Airways Flights to Port of Spain
British Airways is unique in that it not only offers flights to the city but also has its own package holiday deal. The package includes round-trip flights to and from London Gatwick to Piarco International Airport, which is about ten kilometers from Port of Spain. It includes seven nights at either the Courtyard Hotel or the Hotel Trinidad. Travelers must depart on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday. As of the summer of 2010, rates for the Hilton Trinidad package were 869 British pounds ($1,302.87 US) and 1199 pounds ($1,797.56 US) for the Courtyard.
American Airlines Flights
One of the major carriers which offers flights from the United States to Port of Spain is American Airlines. Port of Spain is one of the travel destinations featured in American’s Vacations travel services, which allows passengers to choose their departure city and flight into Port of Spain and then add hotel nights and/or car rental as part of one package. Most flights end up going through Miami, regardless of where they originate, and hotel accommodations are in the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Center.
Continental Airlines Flights
Continental Airlines also has many flights which leave from the US to Port of Spain. Many of them go through Continental’s hub in Houston, Texas. However, as of December 2009, Continental unveiled a special discount fare from Newark Airport in New Jersey to Port of Spain starting at only $268. The fare depends on availability and does not include any extra baggage charges, taxes or security fees. However, the flight is round-trip. Even on days when the $268 fare is not available, Continental has cheap flights to Port of Spain out of Newark, with the average fare being $348.
