Lake George Rentals - Finding Summer Rentals in Lake George - Getting to Lake George, Lake George Rentals

available cabins looking miles

Situated in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, Lake George, known as the Queen of the American Lakes, is a popular vacation destination for residents of the great New York area. In the later 19th and early 20th centuries, Lake George was a prime location for the wealthy to spend their summer holidays. Well known families such as the Vanderbilts, Roosevelts, and Rockefellers all owned property near the lake. However, as travel became more affordable in the 1950s and 1960s, Lake George was no longer a get-away only for the ultra rich. Lake George rentals are now available at many different prices, making the possibility of a Lake George summer vacation possible for many more people. With the beautiful lake, nearby hiking trails, and many small town tourist attractions, Lake George is an ideal place for a summer getaway.

Getting to Lake George

Lake George is a little over 200 miles north of New York City, 45 miles north of Albany, and about 225 highway miles northwest of Boston. To get to the Lake George from any of these cities, you will need to connect with Interstate Highway 87, which runs directly through the city of Lake George. If you fly into the Albany airport, the Adirondack Trailways bus line offers service to Lake George for about $30. Taxi and car rental service is also available for $35 or more.

Lake George Rentals

Those who are looking for a rustic cabin in Lake George have many options to choose from. If you do not want to set up a tent but are still looking for a truly rustic feel, cabins like those found at the Pine Grove Cottages might be a good option. The cabins at this location or similar locales will cost about $100 to $150 per night. These cabins are usually equipped with a bathroom, a basic kitchen, and one or two bedrooms. While not quite camping, these rentals are not too far from it. If you are looking for something a little more expensive with perhaps a few more amenities, then there are several larger more recently built or updated cabins available. For example, the Lodge 21 at Cresthaven on the south side of Lake George has, according to its owners, an “elegantly rustic” feel. These rentals, which sleep seven people, are available for a weekly rate of $1500 or so, depending on the season. Other similar rentals can be found in the $1500 to $3500 range, depending on the size of the rental, the amenities offered, and the time of year. In addition to the many private rentals available at Lake George there are many hotels nearby. These include both well known chains like the Comfort Suites and Holiday Inn and many independent hotels. Rates at these locations can vary, but are typically in the $90 to $125 range. Finally, if you are curious about Lake George rentals for the super rich, there are still a few of those around. For instance, the Highlands Castle is available for $3,000 per week or $20,000 per week. If you cannot afford the Highlands, however, there are still plenty of Lake George rentals available for you, and you should be able to find one that meets your needs.
