After a long day of walking between the presidential monuments, the museums in the Smithsonian, and the National Mall, any visitor to Washington D.C. will be ready for a good meal. Whether you are looking for a family friendly restaurant to take the kids to, a casual dining restaurant where you can relax with friends, or a fine dining restaurant to visit with that special someone, there are enough restaurants in DC to meet any of these needs.

Family Friendly Restaurants in DC

While you can always take the kids to the nearest McDonalds or Taco Bell, if you are looking for something a little nicer and more memorable for your visit to Washington D.C., then there are several family friendly options close to the National Mall. While many of the restaurants in the general area of the Capitol and National Mall have kids’ menus, two nearby eateries in particular are good for kids. First, if you are looking for a place to have lunch during your visit to DC, then Market Lunch is a good option. This diner is a few blocks east of the Capitol dome on 7th Street. It features crab cakes, seafood, and southern food. Prices for this local favorite are typically between $5 and $14. Just one block beyond Market Lunch is the Zest Bistro. This kid friendly restaurant could be a good option for dinner after you finish your tour of the National Mall. Prices are a little higher than the Market Lunch (between $15 to $24 per person), but the atmosphere and food make it a fun place for a family meal.

Casual Dining in DC

If you are looking for casual dining in DC, then there are more options to choose from than you could visit in a month. If you want to stay close to the National Mall, there are several casual dining options just north of the Mall between 14th Street and 6th Street. It should not take long for you to stumble across something that will whet your appetite. If you are looking for classic American fare, then Harry’s Restaurant on 11th Street, Mike Baker’s 10th Street Grill (on 10th Street), and the Hard Rock Cafe (also on 10th) all have casual dining in the $12 to $20 per entree range. If you are looking for something with a more distinctive local flare, the Old Ebbitt Grill on 15th Street NW is Washington’s oldest saloon. Presidents William McKinley, Ulysses Grant, Andrew Johnson, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Warren Harding were all known to be patrons at the Old Ebbitt. Entrees there are a little higher, however, averaging about $30. If you are looking for a casual dining Italian restaurant, there are also several options north of the National Mall, including Potenza on H Street, Vapiano on M Street, and Tosca Restaurant on F Street. These all feature entrees in the $15 to $30 range as well.

Fine Dining in DC

When you want to take that special someone to a romantic restaurant in DC, then you should have plenty of options as well. One of the best rated restaurants in DC is Komi. This restaurant, which will serve a $125 per person set menu, features Mediterranean cuisine in a subdued atmosphere. They are usually booked up at least a month in advance, so reservations are a must if you plan to visit there. Other quality fine dining options in DC include Michel Richard Citronelle, which is closer to Georgetown and features French and American food, Obelisk, a highly rated Italian restaurant closer to DuPont Circle, and West End Bistro by Eric Ripert, an American bistro on 22nd Street.
