Harry Potter Release Date - Anticipation is Building for the Upcoming Harry Potter Release Date

book hallows deathly fans

After 13 years, seven books, and six movies, the final chapters of the Harry Potter saga are approaching. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, will hit theaters on November 19, 2010. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, will be released on July 15, 20011. The Harry Potter release date has been eagerly anticipated by fans ever since the release of the seventh and final book in the wildly popular Harry Potter series.

When it was released in 2007, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows broke records around the world as the fastest-selling book in history. The previous record had been held by the sixth book in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Once the series was resolved in book form, the only thing left for fans to speculate on was how the conclusion would be covered on the big screen.

In early 2008, filmmakers announced that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows would be covered in two movies, instead of one like the six previous books. Warner Brothers, the studio that produces the Harry Potter franchise, explained the decision by saying that the Deathly Hallows book was simply too broad to be covered in one two-hour film. By splitting the book into two movies, more of the book will be included in the film version.

In July, 2009, the film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince entered theaters and broke multiple records on its opening weekend alone. It is currently the highest grossing single-day movie and the 11th highest total moneymaker of all time. Those numbers are expected to be eclipsed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – possibly by both Part 1 and Part 2.

Hard-core fans, of course, have no shortage of ways they’re preparing for the upcoming Harry Potter release date. Fan forums, message boards, and chat rooms have been buzzing ever since the release of the Deathly Hallows book. Fans speculate about which plot points from the book will be included in the movie, which scenes will be cut, how the cast will handle the increasingly dark subject matter, and how the various deaths will (or in some cases won’t) be shown. As the release date nears, it seems there is no piece of information too small to debate or no rumor too vague to contemplate by the fans.

Filming began on both films in February of 2009 and wrapped up in June of 2010. Although filmmakers tried to keep details of the filming as secret as possible, that didn’t stop pictures from the set and reports from cast and crew from leaking. Prior to the film’s release, pictures were available online of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in aging makeup (presumably for the book’s epilogue) and the question of where the split between the two films would happen was solved (around Chapter 24 of the book). The studio released even more photos from the set once filming ended, and continued to add further hints about what fans could expect when the Harry Potter film hit theaters.
