Baker College in Michigan is a small non-profit college that has campuses scattered throughout the lower peninsula of the state. The college claims to be the largest independent college in the state, and administrators are proud to report that 97 percent of the school’s available graduates currently have jobs. The college has been around since 1911, and there are nine campuses and six branches in all. The school also offers online classes to anyone in the world.

Available Programs at Baker College

Students who attend Baker College in Michigan can train for careers in one of seven different fields. The eight areas of study offered include business, computers, office administration, human service, education, health, culinary arts, and engineering or technology. Within those areas of study, the school offers more than 140 different degree and certificate programs. Students can earn a career certificate, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate at Baker College.

Campus Locations

The campuses of Baker College are spread fairly evenly across the bottom portion of Michigan, which the northernmost campuses being located in Cadillac and West Branch. The other campuses include Fremont, Muskegon, which holds the Culinary Institute of Michigan, Cass City, Sandusky, Flint, Port Huron, Sarnia, Auburn Hills, Clinton Township, Allen Park, Jackson, and Coldwater. Also Owosso holds the Auto/Disel Institute.

Campus Life

Although Baker College in Michigan is small, it still offers many of the traditional college life activities students want to experience when they first leave home. Students have the option to live in a residence hall if they attend the campuses of Flint, Muskegon, and Owosso. The residence halls offer apartment-style living and paid utilities. There are also kitchens with full-sized appliances, 24-hour security, and recreation equipment.

Accreditation Status

Baker College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which is part of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. There are four programs that have their own accreditation, in addition to the school’s general accreditation. The health sciences department, the physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, and optician programs are all accredited, as are the engineering and technology department and the business administration department. The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education has accredited the Master of Business Administration, and the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education has accredited the school’s Master of Occupational Therapy program.

Dual Enrollment

High school students can attend Baker College in order to get a head start on their college education. Each school district sets its own requirements for dual college and high school enrollment. In addition, a high school counselor or principal must recommend the student for dual enrollment. High school students can take up to two four credit hour classes each quarter.
