A popular vacation destination, the island of Antigua is the main island in the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. This island is part of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean about 325 east of Puerto Rico and about 1300 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. Although the number of visitors has gone down in recent years, over half a million people continue to visit the island each year. Tourism accounts for over half of the jobs on the island, so a visitor to the island will have plenty of hotel and resort options available. While there are many less expensive hotels, the “crown jewel” of Antigua hotels is certainly the Jumby Bay Antigua resort.

The Jumby Bay Island resort is not actually on the island of Antigua. Rather, it is situated about two miles off the shore of the main island. It is accessible only by boat, so it provides the visitor with a secluded atmosphere for their Caribbean vacation. Jumby Bay island, which has a land mass of about 300 acres, is known for its beautiful beaches and wildlife preserves. After flying into V. C. Bird International Airport on Antigua, Jumby Bay resort visitors can take a complementary taxi and private catamaran to the island.

The resort itself, which recently underwent a $28 million renovation, has several different lodging options. As part of the recent renovation, 28 luxury suites were built just a few short steps from the beach. There are also 11 Oceanfront Pool suites that have private pools with spectacular views of the Caribbean. On the west side of the resort, there are 12 Rondavel suites, and 15 Courtyard suites are on the north side of the property. There are two Rosewood Estate Suites that offer the visitor a private getaway within the resort. All of these rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs, Bose sound systems, and free wireless internet. In addition to these suites, there are also 16 privately owned villas and 6 estate homes that are available for visitors to rent.

Along with the luxurious accommodations at the resort, there are also plenty of activities and amenities available at Jumby Bay. Some of the on site amenities include a children’s club, a business center, a library, a film screening room, laundry service, and bicycle rentals. Also, Sense, an ocean side spa and a luxury fitness center are available for visitors. There are several dining and nightlife options at the resort. These include the Verandah Restaurant and Bar, a European-style bistro, the Pool Grille and Bar, and the Estate House, which features fine dining options. For visitors looking for a more unique and specialized dining experience, the Kitchen at the Verandah offers a personal chef for up to eight guests.

Visitors to the Jumby Bay Antigua can expect luxury service, but they should also expect to pay luxury prices. Prices at the resort start at around $795 per night for the Rondavel suites. Other suites range from about $1000 to $1500 or more per night. The private villas and estate homes will range from about $3500 for a two bedroom villa to about $900 per night for the Oleander, Frangipani, and Eagles Landing estate homes.

If you are looking for luxury, the Jumby Bay Antigua is certainly the place to look. As they say, however, you get what you pay for, and the price for this resort is certainly luxurious.
