game mode multiplayer modes

There is no doubt that one of the most popular video games of the 21st century is the Grand Theft Auto Series. Although the first two of the series, created in 1997 and 1999, only saw limited success, Grand Theft Auto III and subsequent releases broke the game out into the mainstream. There was only one limiting factor to the franchise: there was no Grand Theft Auto online.

The game designers at Rockstar Games didn’t see fit to make a version of Grand Theft Auto online until the release of Grand Theft Auto IV. Fortunately, they left their game engine open to expansions and modifications. A modification of Grand Theft Auto III for Windows was released in 2004 that allowed users Grand Theft Auto online multiplayer access. This modification is known as Multi Theft Auto, and it can be downloaded free online from several game download sites, including Gamespot.

The next game in the series, Vice City, had a popular modification created for it in 2005. There were actually two versions of this Grand Theft Auto online modification unofficially released: one for Windows servers and one for Linux servers. The final version of the game to use the Grand Theft Auto III game engine, San Andreas, had an online multiplayer modification made for it in 2008.

None of these modifications ended up being very popular. No more than 100,000 people ever downloaded a single version. While it was apparent that there was a market for Grand Theft Auto online, players were skeptical of adding unofficial modifications to their game.

Rockstar Games finally saw fit to listen to their fans with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV. Not only did the game use an all-new engine, users were finally able to officially play Grand Theft Auto online. The online multiplayer mode is available on all versions of the game, including Windows, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

GTA IV online multiplayer has several features that have made it extremely popular. Up to 16 players can play at once on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, while 32 can play simultaneously on the PC version. Games are completely customizable by the host, who can choose between vehicles, weapons, traffic levels, pedestrians, and police pressure levels. In addition, all player characters are customizable, too. You can choose between sex, race, hair color/style, and clothing. The only drawback to the official Grand Theft Auto online is that you cannot choose a specific game or server to join. You can only choose a mode, and the game automatically enters you into a game.

To get into the online multiplayer mode, you have to get far enough along in the single-player storyline to get the cell phone. Once you have the cell phone, simple go the menu and choose Multiplayer. The Multiplayer submenu will then display, allowing you to access matches and customize a character.

There are three types of Grand Theft Auto online games that can be played:

  • Player Match – This type allows you play with other gamers in each of the 15 multiplayer modes. This is good for practicing and learning the multiplayer mode.
  • Ranked Match – This game option is only available on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game. This option is for gamers who are competitive and like to get ranked against others.
  • Party Mode – Party Mode is just all-out fun. Players are all on the same side. They begin with every weapon and all possible vehicles are available. To make this option even more fun, there are no bothersome police to stop the action.

The other modes for Grand Theft Auto online are divided into four different categories:

1. Team Modes – Allow players to work for separate teams, both vying to complete the same goals. Scenarios in this mode include Team Deathmatch, Cops N Crooks, Turf War, and more.

2. Cooperative Modes – Allow players to work together on the same team. These scenarios are included in Cooperative Mode: Del Breaker and Hangman’s Noose.

3. Competitive Modes – The game scenarios in this mode are every player for themselves. The scenarios include all of the Team Mode scenarios plus Free Mode.

4. Race Modes – Be the first to get through the checkpoints on each city circuit. There are two different Race Modes.
