Social Security Jobs - Types of Social Security Jobs

For those looking for social security jobs, there are a number of different career paths to choose from, paths both working with people and working with numbers and information. Whatever one’s forte is, there is a job working for the Social Security Administration, or the SSA, that will be the perfect fit. They are a legal administration, run by the government, and so there are a number of unique aspects to the job, and things that people will have to do — such as clear a background check — in order to get a job working for them. If one does get such a job, however, it can lead to a long and prosperous career.

One of the social security jobs is that of Claims Representative/Claims Authorizer, which is part of the umbrella of Public Contact jobs. This is a job in which one will try to establish, when meeting with people who want to receive social security benefits, if they are in fact eligible. Social security is not available to anyone living within American borders, and so one will have to find out if the person truly deserves to receive the benefits. This can involve looking at all manner of personal information, from age to citizenship. This is generally a fairly straightforward process, as people who go to the trouble to apply are most often eligible. Still, this needs to be proven before they can move on to the next step.

Another one of the social security jobs, also under the umbrella of Public Contact jobs, is that of Benefit Authorizer, or Legal Administrative Specialist. The basic job for a person choosing this career path will be to meet with people, either face-to-face or over the phone, to look at data and conduct an interview to find out what amount of benefits that they are entitled to. This is not to imply that the people will be trying to commit fraud, and that one will have to catch them at it, though this could come up. Most often, though, one will just be working to make sure all the data is presented and accurate, and then to assess how much people should be offered in benefits. People just beginning the process of receiving social security will not know how much they should be getting, and one will work with them to figure it out, and then inform them of what they are eligible for.

A third one of the many social security jobs is that of an Information Technologies Specialist. As can be assumed, the Social Security Administration works extensively with computers and digital information. This is the fashion in which the records are kept, both of people and of payments. It is very important to keep all of this information in the right order, and also to make sure that the systems keeping track of everything are doing so in the appropriate manner. An Information Technologies Specialist will do this, both working to upkeep and design software, sort information, and manipulate that information into the correct places.

Finally, one could aspire to become a Criminal Investigator. Some people do try to rob the social security fund by using fraud to get money that they are not entitled to, and the Criminal Investigator works to, among other things, put an end to this. They will also spend time running surveillance on suspects, trying to find out what they are doing and collect information, and testifying before juries and judges, as they will want to put the criminals away once they have found them, apprehended them, and brought them in.

As can be seen, there are many opportunities to work for the Social Security Administration. They need people of all manner of talents and skills, and are looking for new workers all of the time. If one is skilled in personal communication, there are many jobs working to talk to the people about their benefits. If one is more skilled with computers and automated systems, there are those jobs as well. In one wants to promote justice, there are law enforcement jobs to do just that. Social security jobs can be right for anyone, and there are plenty of options.
