Tucked away in the upper Hudson valley at the very edge of the Adirondacks is the charming town of Saratoga Springs, New York. Built upon its refreshing and revitalizing mineral waters, Saratoga Springs has a rich history and offers a vibrant and diverse community of arts and entertainment. Many of its hotels showcase a rare and historic Victorian opulence. Though home to the oldest thoroughbred track in the United States, Saratoga Springs has not lost its mineral roots and boasts some of the finest spas in the world. Saratoga Springs greets visitors with both luxurious and revitalizing accommodations for all visitors.

Listed as one of the great Historic Hotels of America, the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa is located in the Saratoga Spa State Park and shares its grand history. It was Gideon Putnam who founded and named the town for its mineral springs. The resort hotel was built in 1930 under President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration along with the state park and stands today as a tribute to Putnam’s legacy. Saratoga Spa State Park was created to protect the waters and now comprises over 2,300 acres of land in the area. It is a public park and home to museums, restaurants and theaters, most notably the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center. A beautiful outdoor venue which boasts The Saratoga Chamber of Music Festival, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The New York City Ballet, Freihofer’s Jazz Festival, and The Lake George Opera Festival as well as special event rock concerts throughout the summer months. Bring a picnic lunch and relax on the lawn on a picture perfect afternoon.

Downtown Saratoga Springs also boasts many other historic and notable hotels which are just minutes away from the State Park and the Saratoga Race Course. While the official racing season runs from late July through Labor Day, the festivities go on all summer long with performances, parties and festivals around at the race track and around town. Broadway Avenue runs through the heart of the downtown historic district and most of the grand old hotels can be found there. The Inn at Saratoga is the oldest hotel in Saratoga Springs but offers excellent modern amenities in a “casual” Victorian atmosphere. Constructed in 1877, the Adelphi Hotel is a stunning example of High Victorian architecture and style. It’s a lavish hotel from a different age and definitely a worthwhile experience. Somewhere in between is the Saratoga Arms, an exquisite 1870 historic Second Empire brick hotel. The porch of the Arms is adorned in wicker and offers a relaxing vantage point for the many activities in town. Just up the road on Lake Avenue is the Fox and Hound hotel, a beautifully restored Victorian mansion within walking distance from the racetrack and downtown. A little further outside of town, the Longfellow’s hotel rivals the opulent historic hotels with its elegant country charm and luxurious spa experience.

Rejuvenate in the bubbly mineral rich waters of Saratoga Springs State Park, enjoy an evening of classical music under the stars at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, or let your adrenaline run wild at the race course. The hotels are as grand, rich and opulent as the experience in Saratoga Springs.
