Hershey, Pennsylvania is the “Town Built on Chocolate”. It boasts an actual chocolate factory where Hershey chocolates are still made, along with the popular Hersheypark amusement park, ZooAmerica NorthAmerican Wildlife Park, Hershey Stadium, the Hershey Golf Collection golf course, and Hershey Highmeadow Campgrounds, to name just a few attractions.

History of Hershey, PA

Milton S. Hershey built the Hershey chocolate factory in 1903. Mr. Hershey wanted to provide a community in Hershey, and build a town with schools, shops, and an amusement park where his employees and their families could go for relaxation. He then started an orphanage and a school that he endowed with his entire fortune. He built a community center, theater, and the fabulous Hershey Hotel. Currently, all the attractions are under the name of Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company.

Hershey, PA is about 15 miles east of Harrisburg, PA which is the capitol of Pennsylvania. It is located in central Pennsylvania in the Pennsylvania Amish Dutch country. The town of Hershey is a popular tourist attraction about a two-hour drive from Philadelphia, PA.

There are suites available featuring different floor plans and additional amenities. The Sweetest Suites are themed depicting the history of the town. The Milton Hershey Suite has a central parlor, two guest rooms, a sun room, and a veranda overlooking the town.

The Woodside Cottages are the premier guest rooms with walking trails and multi-bedroom guest cottages. There are marble bathrooms and stone hearths in the intimate cottages. Guests can either rent individual rooms or the entire cottage.

•Hershey Lodge has 665 rooms and deluxe suites. Rooms feather chocolate-themed artwork, refrigerators, and a king or two queen beds. Valet parking is also available. The suites have room layouts to suite specific needs, and feature bathrobes and bottled water.

•Hershey Highmeadow Campgrounds is open year around for campers who range from those with tents, campers, or who would rather sleep in one of the cabins on the 55 acres. There are over 300 open and shaded sites in the rustic setting with log, extended, or full-service cabins. There are also pull-through or tented campsites.

•Days Inn Hershey has 87 rooms on 4 floors and is in walking distance of Hershey Park. There is a heated indoor pool and exercise room. The rooms have a refrigerator and microwave. Days Inn Hershey is a moderately priced hotel with clean rooms and a large pool and whirlpool area.

•Howard Johnson Inn offers 52 rooms on 2 floors with a heated outdoor pool and a fitness center. It also has a restaurant on-site. It is near but not too close to Hershey Park, and has a good continental breakfast with freshly baked goods and lots of variety. It is priced in the range for families or people who want good accommodations on a budget.

•Suites at Hershey has a heated indoor pool and an outdoor pool for the convenience of the guests who occupy the 54 suites on 4 floors. There is an exercise room, basketball court, game room, and lounge. The suites are large, spacious, and comfortable in this nice midscale hotel. Rooms have washers and dryers.

•The Milton Hotel has 34 rooms, each with a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, free HBO, hair dryers, iron/board, and DVD player. Guest rooms are newly remodeled in 2008 and have pillow-top mattresses. It is 1.5 miles from Hershey Park and all the other attractions. It is also near the Penn State Medical facility, and only 10 minutes away from the new Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse.
