Eight of these hotels are in the Downtown or “Downcity” area as it is known and one is in the neighborhood close to Brown University. When looking at a Providence hotel, it is wise to remember that this is the smallest state and everything is relatively close to everything else.

The Providence “Downcity” hotels are described as follows:

The Providence Biltmore Hotel, 11 Dorrance Street, is the oldest hotel in Providence built in 1922 and the scene of many a wedding, prom and event since then. This Providence hotel is located next door to City Hall and is the closest hotel to the city’s outdoor skating rink. It is within walking distance of the RI Convention Center, Dunkin’ Donuts Center and Providence Place Mall. It is also a nice stroll from the Biltmore to Providence Performing Arts Center and Trinity Repertory Theater. Providence Marriott Downtown Hotel, 1 Orms Street, is the Providence hotel that is the closest to Providence College and also not far from Brown University. The Marriott has long been a favorite spot for local groups to hold events due to their great food. This Providence hotel has some truly interesting package deals like the “Sam Adams Beer Package”, the package with the Twin River slot casino, and “Weird and Wacky Providence” packages with tickets to ghost tours among other things. Hampton Inn & Suites Providence Downtown, 58 Weybosset St. In a rather unusual move, Hilton put this cute little Hampton Inn in what used to be a bank building in the heart of the Providence business district and some of the old banking design is reflected in their attractive lobby. This hotel is close to all the downcity attractions. It boasts it is walking distance from the colleges, but one would have to be in very good shape to walk to Brown University and Providence College from this Providence hotel although it is close to Johnson & Wales University. The Hampton Inn has 110 rooms and suites with all Hampton amenities.

Hotel Providence. 139 Mathewson St. was the first “luxury boutique” hotel in Providence, RI. Many did not think that it would thrive, but it has done well and is a beautiful hotel.
