The city of Cork sits on the banks of the River Lee, bursting with energy and life itself. Visitors are treated to plentiful pubs, restaurants with delicious food, art galleries, museums, parks, and historical sites. It’s easy getting around on foot within Cork’s central areas, but a rental car is useful for trips to places like Blarney Castle, the Jameson Heritage Center, the Fota Wildlife Park and Gougane Barra Forest Park. The Hayfield Manor Hotel, less than a mile from Cork’s center, gets a five-star rating. It is considered Cork’s number one luxury hotel with high prices to prove it, and a period appearance and feel. Its foyer is decked out with marble columns and a grand staircase made of mahogany. The guest rooms are large, with big windows and marble bathrooms. The beds are all orthopedic, guaranteeing a good night’s sleep. Hayfield Manor has a fully equipped health club, open to all, and especially accommodating to children. For youngsters, the hotel offers babysitting services, miniature bathrobes and cookies and milk at sleep time. There are two restaurants, a bar, a drawing room, Jacuzzi, indoor pool, spa, and steam room.

The Clarion, a four-star American-style hotel, opened in 2005 within Cork City. It overlooks the River Lee on one side, is opposite City Hall, and is within steps of the Bells of Shandon, and St. Anne’s Shandon Churches, and only a few steps more to St Fin Barre’s Cathedral. The hotel is also very close to Cork’s Bus Station, and a 10 minute walk to the train station. This is Cork’s largest hotel, with six floors and 197 guest rooms. Some rooms have balconies looking out onto the river, all are spacious and comfortable. The Clarion has two restaurants and a bar. Along with its excellent location, Clarion has an exercise room, a health club, a sauna, and an indoor swimming pool. This hotel welcomes children, and babysitting services are available.

The River Lee Hotel (formerly Jury’s Cork Hotel), right on the banks of the River Lee, is a two-minute walk from Cork’s shopping area. The hotel, including the guest rooms, are filled with floor-to-ceiling windows which overlook the Lee River and the city of Cork. Each guest room has big, comfortable beds, plasma-screen TVs, and bathrooms with a separate shower and bath tub. Wi-fi is free and so is a secure underground carpark. The hotel’s health club has a fitness facility, a Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, indoor pool and a spa tub. The hotel restaurant, Weir Bistro and Bar offers an interesting menu served on an outdoor terrace. The River Lee is a no smoking hotel.

The Windsor Inn Cork is a two-star hotel within the city limits, right near City Hall. This hotel was built in 1850, but was recently renovated. Windsor Inn sits on a busy Cork street with many restaurants and bars. But the Windsor Inn also has its own very lively bar, called L.V. on the ground floor. It carries local stouts and beers, and hot coffee drinks. Its open fire simmers and its live music two to three evenings each week draw in many local residents as well as the Inn’s guests. Every Saturday night, there is standup comedy at the L.V. Bar. The Windsor offers a complimentary breakfast consisting of several choices. One is a huge traditional Irish fried plate, or there are many vegetarian alternatives, along with a buffet of fruits, yogurts, breads and juices.
