Addison is a small city in Dallas County, Texas. It is located 14 miles due north of Dallas and has a population of 15,737. The city was first settled in 1846 as a homestead for Preston Witt who built his home near White Rock Creek. By 1902, a community had formed and was granted a post office. One of the leading residents was Addison Robertson, and the city was named after him. He later served as the postmaster for Addison. The city’s primary business was in cotton. The first school was built in 1914, and the community was incorporated in 1953 as a city. Although it is legally a city, its official name is the Town of Addison. Today, Addison is known as vibrant, upbeat, primarily commercial suburb that has fought and won the battle against typical suburban features.
