Journal Of American Medical Association - Subscribing to the Journal of the American Medical Association

addition published online original

If you are a healthcare professional or even just a concerned patient following a particular medical condition, there is no better way to keep up with all of the latest findings than by subscribing to the Journal of the American Medical Association. The Journal of the American Medical Association is an international peer-reviewed publication on the subject of general medicine. It is published in over 20 languages and has the highest circulation of any journal of its kind throughout the world.

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) was first published in 1883. It has been in continuous circulation since then. The original editor was one of the founders of the American Medical Association, Nathan Smith Davis. It was established as a method of bringing to light scientific medical studies and for providing a process in which the studies can be reviewed by peers and corroborated as sound. Today, those peers take the form of a formal review from 3,500 medical professionals at the top of their fields from more than 40 countries. In addition to original research, the journal also publishes medical news, editorials, essays, and news all related to medicine and healthcare.

The key objective of the Journal of the American Medical Association is stated in these words: “To promote the science and art of medicine and the betterment of the public health.” In addition, the publication has several other ancillary objectives that include the following:

  • To publish important and original articles on a wide range of topics relating to medicine that have been peer-reviewed.
  • To be held in high esteem due to impeccable and objective editorial standards.
  • To be a source of continuing education to those in the medical field.
  • To improve the health of all human beings the world over, regardless of national affiliation.
  • To provide a forum for debating both new medical studies and traditional medical practices.
  • To report on all social and governmental factors that affect the state of world health care.
  • To publish the JAMA in a timely fashion and in a format that is both credible and enjoyable.

The Journal of the American Medical Association is available in both hardcopy formats and online. Institutions in developing countries are given free access to the online version of the journal. All others must pay for their subscriptions. Single-year subscriptions to both the online and print versions to the Journal of the American Medical Association are available at several rate tiers:

  • Institutions: $590
  • AMA-member physicians: $100
  • Non-AMA physicians, non-students, and general public: $165
  • Medical students and residents: $95

A one-year subscription includes 48 weekly issues that include original published research, medical news, the Clinician’s Corner (evidence-based reviews of therapeutic and diagnostic technology and methods), and the JAMA Patient Page (Facts for patients written in easily understood language and with a list of resources for further information). In addition to these features, each issue contains editorials, commentaries, a cover story, letters, book reviews, media reviews, and information directly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In addition, when subscribing to both the print and online versions, these additional resources are available: CME quiz, downloads of PowerPoint images, email alerts, interjournal links to thousands of articles published in other journals, PDF downloads, interactive features, and a weekly podcast.
