Cheap Notebooks Laptops - Buying Cheap Notebooks and Laptops

If you are a student or you run your own business, it is almost impossible to get by without owning a notebook or laptop. Unfortunately, most laptops can set you back a pretty penny unless you know exactly what you need and where to find cheap notebooks and laptops. If you want to buy a new notebook, you can expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $3,000. Getting a deal on new laptops can be very difficult, but not impossible. Here are a few types to finding cheap notebooks and laptops for yourself or your child.

If you are looking to buy a cheap notebook computer, the first you should do is to think about name brands. There are so many name brands in laptops today that it really doesn’t matter when you are looking for a budget model. Your Apple’s, Sony Vaio’s, and IBMs will be among the more expensive, whether you are buying new or used. You are better off searching for other brands that are known to be available with low prices, such as Acer, Toshiba, Dell, and HP. Other lesser known brands may provide even deeper discounts. Such laptops include eMachines and Compaq.

The next thing to think about if you want to buy cheap notebooks and laptops are the specifications of the computer. If you want to buy a cheap notebook, you should not be looking at any laptop with a processor more powerful than an Intel Core 2 Duo. This is the cutoff. Less expensive used notebooks may use a version of the Pentium M processor. These may be just enough to get you by. Another cheap processor to look for is the Intel Atom. This is made especially for netbook computers, but you can find them in some full laptops.

Other specifications to consider are RAM, optical drive, battery, and screen size. Although many cheap notebooks and laptops will have only 512MB of RAM, if you want a laptop that will carry you for a few years, you should look for 1GB RAM, but anything more will usually cost you. As far as optical drives go, it shouldn’t be a problem to get a CD/DVD burner. At minimum, you should buy a CD burner with a DVD player. You will definitely want both players. Screen size may or may not be an issue. Some smaller-screened laptops are actually more expensive than their larger counterparts. However, the cheapest laptops will have screens around 15 inches in size.

One more important factor is wireless connectivity. A built-in Wi-Fi network adapter doesn’t add that much to the price of a laptop. All laptops built within the last three years will have wireless adapters built in. With some older models, you will have to buy a separate card or USB adapter.

The best deals for cheap notebooks and laptops are for models that are neither new nor used. To get the best laptop for the least money, look for refurbished units. They may also be listed as remanufactured or reconditioned. Many of these units are simply open-box units that can no longer be sold as new. Others were returned because they weren’t needed and have never been used. At the worst, the laptop had a problem that was easily fixed and tested as fully functioning. You can save anywhere from 10% to 50% off new prices by buying refurbished laptops and you don’t have to worry that they were so badly screwed up by a previous owner as to be unclean and unusable.
