Panama Beach, Florida is a colloquial term for what is more properly called Panama City Beach, Florida. Panama City Beach is a city on the Florida panhandle on the Gulf of Mexico. It is named after Panama City, which is east of Panama City Beach, on the other side of Saint Andrew Bay. Panama Beach, Florida is a popular tourist city. Even though the full-time population is only 14,514, during March and April, the total number of people in the city reaches well over 100,000. For this reason, Panama Beach, Florida is known as the Spring Break Capital of the World.

Panama Beach, Florida was not always the tourist hotspot it is today. Before 2000, the city only had 7,000 residents staying in older single-family homes and along the beach were only a few roadside motels. Building contractors saw potential for the city and began construction of high-rise condos and luxury resorts that culminated in the city being named the number one real estate market in the country by CNN in 2006. At that time, beachfront property topped out at $60,000 per linear foot, but dropped due to the mortgage/housing crises that began that same year.

Panama Beach, Florida consists of 27 miles of pristine sugar-white beach under emerald Gulf waters. The city boasts 320 days of sunshine every year and an average temperature of 74F. Some travel experts go so far as to say Panama City Beach is the most ideal destination in the world for a vacation.
