The area north of Charleston, South Carolina mainly consisted of plantation properties from its original colonization in the 1600s until the Civil War. After reconstruction, the land was divided into smaller farms and residential properties as the city’s population moved northward. The area became home to a phosphate fertilizer plant, and strip mining of the area began. In the early part of the 20th century, Charleston’s north area housed E. P. Burton Lumber Company, the U.S. Navy Yard, General Asbestos and Rubber Company, etc.

By 1912, a development company bought the tract of land belonging to Burton Lumber designing an area with residential housing as well as commercial sections. Park Circle was laid out as a garden city (one of two such models in the U.S.) Residents didn’t like the sectioning given to business interests and passed a referendum to separate from Charleston, making North Charleston a separate city. They have leaned toward residential neighborhoods since that time. When Charleston International Airport was build nearby and North Charleston built an Area Convention Center, excellent hotels brought in tourists for business and vacations.

The Embassy Suites North Charleston—Airport/Hotel Convention Center is an upscale, all-suite hotel which offers exceptional accommodations within minutes of downtown Charleston. The Historical District, Fort Sumter, South Carolina Aquarium, Charleston Museum, The Citadel, Drayton Hall, Patriot’s Point, and Fort Moultrie are within minutes of the hotel.

The suites provide spacious living areas, bath and bedroom(s) which are perfect for families on vacation and business travelers. All guests find home comforts such as high-speed internet access, two televisions (so parents and children needn’t watch the same thing), two telephones, a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.
