Acne is one of the most common embarrassments among teenagers and can even follow an individual into adulthood. Unfortunately, it often seems that breakouts are uncontrollable and that the only way in which the condition can be relieved is through a dermatologist. However, this is not always necessary. There are many natural treatments for the condition which can be more effective even than medications. Often, the body is simply craving a new diet and requires more of certain nutrients. Additionally, improvements in skin hygiene can also help in controlling the condition.

There are several methods by which acne can be treated at home without the use of a dermatologist and prescription medications. Some of the following natural remedies have been shown to work in as little as 4 weeks.

Honey Mask

Honey has many antibacterial agents that work in healing blemishes and disinfecting the skin. Honey masks are also very gentle for even the most sensitive of skin and can be done as many as two to three times a week.

Acne Soap

Wash your face twice per day using acne medication. The best soap is one which has a sulfur base. The best times to wash your face are in the morning right after getting out of bed and right before going to bed. Make sure to be as gentle as possible during washing. Use a soft cloth and do not scrub too hard. Do not wash more than two times per day as this will result in overwashing. Washing the face too much can actually stimulate the glands to produce additional oil which can increase acne.

Keep Hair Off Face

The hair contains numerous oils so it should be kept off of the face or it will worsen the acne condition. You should also wash your hair once a day, especially after periods of exercise.

Acne can often indicate a problem inside of the body. The health of the skin depends largely on the amount of water consumed as well as the nutrients present in the body. Unfortunately, the skin is usually a neglected area of the body. If the body does not possess the right nutritional elements, it can retaliate by producing excess oils which clog the pores and reduce the skin’s ability to fight against bacteria and other infections which lead to acne.

Consume Chromium and Zinc

Chromium is present in many dietary plans that are used to lose weight and is useful in the healing of skin infections. Chromium supplementation that is taken once per day will help to heal acne rapidly and also prevent future flare-ups of the condition.

Zinc also works as an antibacterial agent which works with the oil glands in the skin. Low zinc in the body can lead to increased breakouts of acne.

Eat Beta-Carotene

Beta-carotene or Vitamin A, which can be found in carrots, helps to protect the tissues in the skin and helps prevent the occurrence of acne. It also reduces the production of oils. Vitamin A is also necessary for tissue repair and maintenance in the skin as well as the mucous membranes. Beta-carotene also acts as an antioxidant that is required to remove toxins from the body.

Don’t Wear Makeup

The majority of cosmetics that are used on the skin lead to the clogging of the pores and, eventually, to blackheads and pimples. If makeup is needed, it is best for the cosmetics to be water-based as these are less likely to cause acne symptoms.

Do Not Squeeze, Pick, or Scratch the Acne

Although it can be tempting, do not mess with the blackheads and pimples on the skin. Doing this can lead to increased production of oil. Additionally, squeezing destroys the membranes that are present under the skin, thereby leading to the spreading of infections and oils to other areas of the skin. Essentially, more pimples may result.

Frequently Wash Pillow Case

The pillow case is a place where you lay your head every day. Due to this, the pillow is able to absorb the oils which come from your skin. And, even if you wash your face, the pillow will spread the old oil and dirt from the case to your face. This leads to additional breakouts. Therefore, make sure that the pillow cases and sheets remain clean.
