Laptop Network Card - The Benefits of a Laptop Network Card

network card versus network adapter advantages disadvantages

A laptop network card allows you the freedom to leave your home or office and still conduct business while you’re away. Having a wireless service in the home gives you the ability to take your laptop to separate rooms of the house, but it does not work once you exit the range of the home network. Even though having the internet available on your phone might seem nice, it does not offer the convenience of typing documents and sending them via email. This is why having a personal roaming service can benefit you.

Network Card Versus Network Adapter

The wireless laptop network card is much different than the adapter. If your computer does not have the ability to receive a wireless signal on its own, you can purchase a wireless adapter, such as the D-Link RangeBooster or Linksys RangePlus, which detects the wireless signal in the home and allows you to access the internet. It installs into a wireless slot on the laptop and provides a popup that shows you what wireless networks you have to choose from.

The wireless card is different in that it is sold through a wireless provider such as AT&T or Verizon. With it, you don’t have to rely on your home signal or a wireless signal from the coffee shop; this is because you pay for a monthly service to give you access to the company’s wireless network. In fact, companies like AT&T provide international roaming wireless service when you purchase a card.

With a laptop network card, you don’t have to pay the coffee shop to access their wireless, and you don’t have to be confined to public places. You can leave your home and sit at the park and do all of your work outdoors.

With convenience comes price. Not only are you paying for home internet, you will be adding an extra fee to your phone bill by purchasing the laptop card. By purchasing the card, you will be paying anywhere from an extra $50 to $100 per month. In some cases, it may be more depending on the wireless service you use and if it has monthly restrictions.

With a laptop network card, you can send much larger emails than you could if you just used your phone. Also, you never have to worry about your card not working with your Windows operating system because most cards support almost every version of Windows. With international roaming, you can still work outside in over 200 countries if you choose a mainstream carrier like AT&T. If you like to work on the go, then you should think about creating your own wireless and mobile network; you’ll never feel trapped again.
