HUNSTANTON [commonly pronounced Hunston], a seaside resort in the north-western parliamentary division of Norfolk, England, on the east shore of the Wash, 112 M. N. by E. from London by the Great Eastern railway. Pop. of urban district of New Hunstanton (19o1) 1893. The new watering-place is about 1 m. from the old village. It has a good beach, a golf course and a pier. 'l 'he parish church of St Mary is a fine Decorated building, containing monuments of the L'Estrange family, whose mansion, Hunstanton Hall, is a picturesque Tudor building of brick in a well-wooded park. A convalescent home (1372) commemorates the recovery from illness of King Edward VII. when Prince of Wales. At Brancaster, 6 m. E., there is a Roman fort which formed part of the defences of the Lit us Saxonicum (4th century A.D.)
