KUTENAI (Kutonaga), a group of North-American Indian tribes forming; the distinct stock of Kitunahan. Their former range was British Columbia, along the Kootenay lake and river. They were always friendly to the whites and noted for their honesty. In 1904 there were some 550 in British Columbia; and in 1908 there were 6o6 on the Flathead Agency, Montana.
