VEERE, a town in the province of Zeeland, Holland, on the island of Walcheren, 4 M. N.N.E. of Middelburg, with which it is connected by canal (1867–72). It contains several interesting architectural remains of the days of its former prosperity, many of its quaintly gabled old houses dating from the 16th century. There is a fine Gothic church dating from 1348, but subsequently in part destroyed and used fore secular purposes; the town hall (1475) has a fine gable filled with sculpture, and contains' some interesting antiquities.
